If this were a MySpace page, we’d put Brooklyn In the Summer by Aloe Blacc here. Here are some suggestions to get you started, but please do not hesitate to ask us for any specific recommendations during your visit. We love Brooklyn and can’t wait for you to discover why.
Governor’s Island
Governor’s Island is an expansive, car-free island perfect for walking, biking, picnics, or just about any summertime activity. Get there by ferry at Piers 1 or 6 at Brooklyn Bridge Park, or 10 South Street in Lower Manhattan.
DEKALB MARKET HALL
More than two dozen local vendors in one place! Stay cool indoors and taste some local favorites or just wander around aimlessly inside Target (not a “local vendor”)
BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK
This park is one of our favorite locations in the city. Where else can you take a nap on the grass looking at the Lower Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty? Quite a few places actually, but you won’t get a ticket for it at this one.
TIME-OUT MARKET
Exactly two dozen local vendors in one place! Stay cool indoors and taste some local favorites or just wander around aimlessly outside and explore DUMBO.
*If you’re visiting DUMBO, you’re probably going to Google this, so we’ll save you the trouble: The Most Instagrammable Street Corner in Brooklyn. Enjoy and watch out for cars!
PROSPECT PARK
Looking for the landscape architectural flare of Central Park without the hassle of going into Manhattan? Do we have just the park for you! Visit “Brooklyn’s Backyard” to see our fellow Brooklynites and all of their adorable doggos close out the summer. Same designer! Same rugged rustic flourishes! Much more manageable size! And it will put you near the next two suggestions:
BROOKLYN MUSEUM
The watercolor on the home page of this site depicts the Brooklyn Library behind the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch at Grand Army Plaza, both of which are next to the Brooklyn Museum. Impressive, no? Just imagine what’s inside the museum!
BROOKLYN BOTANIC GARDEN
Even though the Cherry Blossoms are the big ticket in April, there are plenty of beautiful summertime offerings among the many gardens here.
THE DUTCH
Are you now steeped in Alice & Trac lore and would like to see where their first date took place? Ask for the Alice & Trac First Date Special. They won’t know what that means or who you're talking about, but it would be a scotch, a beer, and steak tartare with a side of fries.
ROYAL PALMS SHUFFLEBOARD
This is a great indoor activity that feels outdoors. Play some shuffleboard with a cocktail and get food from a food truck parked right inside.
